Q.Are franchise owners in Texas required to file an initial franchise tax report?
All corporations, including franchise corporation, in Texas are required to pay Texas franchise tax. The tax is levied on the greater of the tax on net taxable capital or net taxable earned surplus. There is no minimum tax. If you owe less than $100 you do not have to pay tax, but must still file a report. As a franchise owner your initial tax report is due one year and 89 days after your corporate beginning date. Thereafter, it is due on May 15th.
