Q. What kind of things do I need to consider when looking at locations for my franchise?
Often, the franchisor will assist you with finding the right kind of locations for your franchise. At the very least, they will usually give a geographic area and a list of potential locations, but then it’s up to you to do the legwork of going around and looking at them all. Consider the visibility of the locations from the road, and the accessibility from local freeways. Is there a no left turn into any of the locations or the complexes? If so, this may limit the through traffic to your franchise. Is there enough parking at each of the potential franchise locations? Also consider the building; is there room at each of the locations for expansion of your franchise, or would you have to move to grow your business? This kind of question needs to be considered alongside your future business plans. It is unlikely you will be alone in making these decisions; the franchisor wants your franchise to work, therefore will more than likely be keen to assist you with evaluating the pros and cons of each of your locations. Some people who previously considered taking out a franchise decided instead to assist other entrepreneurs in their area with making the most of their businesses by becoming a WSI consultant.
