Q. What issues do you need to consider in relation to franchise length?
Franchise length refers to the length of the franchise agreement. Generally a franchisor and franchisee sign a contract agreeing to the terms and conditions of the business relationship and there is a length to the business agreement. There is often a clause or statement in the contract allowing the franchisee to renew his or her contract to increase the franchise length at the end of the original agreement (often for a fee). Franchise length can also be shortened by the franchisor if he or she determines that the franchisee is not living up to the contract agreement. If you want to own your own franchise unit but still have freedom and flexibility in you job, consider becoming a consultant with WSI, a “white collar franchise.”
