Q. What is the FTC Amended Franchise Rule?
The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has agreed to revision of the Franchise Rule, which was initially declared in the late 1970s. The revised Rule was effective as of 2007. The Franchise Rule provides prospective purchasers of franchises with the information they require in to assess the risks and benefits of their investments. The Rule requires franchisers to supply all would-be franchisees with a disclosure deed citing 23 specific items of information about the franchise in question, its officers, and other franchisees. Compulsory disclosure topics are: the franchise’s legal history, previous and present franchisees, any restricted territory affiliated to the franchise, and the costs of buying and starting up a franchise.
