For some time now, team owners have been able to give out two kinds of franchise tags: exclusive and non-exclusive. They are very similar but have one major difference: salary. Exclusive players are given the average salary of the top 5 best paid players of the same position as of April the same year. Non-exclusive players are given the average salary of the top 5 best paid players of the same position as of April the previous year.
