WSI Announces Plans to Harness the Internet to Help Feed the World 5/14/2004
Toronto, Canada
Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” One Canadian company has taken this adage to heart, with a vision of changing the world. By serving the needs of small and medium sized businesses, WSI has become known as the world’s #1 Internet Solutions provider. Today, WSI’s CEO Louis Zalany has announced a plan to help meet an even more pressing need in the world – the need to eradicate human suffering in cities and villages of developing nations around the world.
“I believe the Internet will be seen in retrospect as the great equalizer of humanity.” proclaims Zalany. “By allowing individuals to connect and communicate from all corners of the world, individuals can become productive contributors to the world economy regardless of their geography or current economic conditions.”
However there are many gaps that exist between where the world is today and where it will be when Zalany’s vision becomes a reality. “Our first priority at WSI is to help fill the empty stomachs of starving children whose generation we hope to change.” Zalany insightfully explains. “Then we need to educate these children,” he continues, “and as we assist with internet enabling villages, WSI’s leadership position in the area of e-Learning will be leveraged with an even greater purpose.”
In order to manifest its vision, WSI is aligning with relief organizations around the world that already have teams of people in place who can best harness WSI’s global resources.
In advance of our news today of WSI’s global village sponsorship program, Mr. Zalany confirmed our sponsorship of the Village of Ventanilla, Peru. “Already WSI is one of our leading corporate sponsors in the country!” proclaims Rich Chapman of World Vision, one of WSI’s partner organizations. “What really excites us is how they plan on harnessing the internet and the small to medium sized business community around the world to save the lives of thousands of children.”
One of our WSI Outreach Program leaders, the company’s Vice-Chairman Tore Steen, has always envisioned the alignment of business interests and people. “Someone needs to begin realizing this vision, and WSI has the passion to get the ball rolling.” he explains, “We can’t do it on our own, but together with our worldwide network of Internet Consultants, aligning with relief agencies, and joining with our clients, suppliers and other business leaders around the world, we can move mountains.”
Writing this chapter of WSI’s Outreach Program grew out of the willingness expressed by WSI’s shareholders, management team, staff and network of Internet Consultants to make a difference in our world by leveraging this global organization far beyond what any one person could contribute alone.
“Embracing this vision with the full strength of our organization is a passion shared by our management team and all stakeholders within the organization.” adds Ron McArthur, WSI’s Chief Operating Officer. “In addition to joining forces with our business partners around the world, our plan includes partnering with our clients and web surfers the world over.” McArthur goes on to explain that “By the 4th quarter of 2003 we were serving up over 500 million information hits each and every month through our network. Harnessing the power of many millions of visitors and massive internet traffic will be one of the most exciting parts of our vision as our we begin to reveal more detail on our activities later this quarter.”
“Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of these children one child and one village at a time.” Zalany concludes. “It’s one thing to make a dollar, but making a difference is something that we can all get very passionate about.”
A recent report on Corporate Citizenship by the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy’s Imagine Program says only 5% of businesses in Canada give to charity. Only 1% are “Caring Companies” (those that give back 1% of their pretax profits). WSI intends to inspire a new generation of Caring Companies to reach out and make a difference. The details of WSI’s plan will be released later next month to WSI’s global network of Internet Consultants.
