WSI Announces Plans to Harness the Internet to Help Feed the World            5/14/2004

Toronto, Canada

Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” One Canadian company has taken this adage to heart, with a vision of changing the world. By serving the needs of small and medium sized businesses, WSI has become known as the world’s #1 Internet Solutions provider. Today, WSI’s CEO Louis Zalany has announced a plan to help meet an even more pressing need in the world – the need to eradicate human suffering in cities and villages of developing nations around the world.

“I believe the Internet will be seen in retrospect as the great equalizer of humanity.” proclaims Zalany. “By allowing individuals to connect and communicate from all corners of the world, individuals can become productive contributors to the world economy regardless of their geography or current economic conditions.”

However there are many gaps that exist between where the world is today and where it will be when Zalany’s vision becomes a reality. “Our first priority at WSI is to help fill the empty stomachs of starving children whose generation we hope to change.” Zalany insightfully explains. “Then we need to educate these children,” he continues, “and as we assist with internet enabling villages, WSI’s leadership position in the area of e-Learning will be leveraged with an even greater purpose.”

In order to manifest its vision, WSI is aligning with relief organizations around the world that already have teams of people in place who can best harness WSI’s global resources.

In advance of our news today of WSI’s global village sponsorship program, Mr. Zalany confirmed our sponsorship of the Village of Ventanilla, Peru. “Already WSI is one of our leading corporate sponsors in the country!” proclaims Rich Chapman of World Vision, one of WSI’s partner organizations. “What really excites us is how they plan on harnessing the internet and the small to medium sized business community around the world to save the lives of thousands of children.”

One of our WSI Outreach Program leaders, the company’s Vice-Chairman Tore Steen, has always envisioned the alignment of business interests and people. “Someone needs to begin realizing this vision, and WSI has the passion to get the ball rolling.” he explains, “We can’t do it on our own, but together with our worldwide network of Internet Consultants, aligning with relief agencies, and joining with our clients, suppliers and other business leaders around the world, we can move mountains.”

Writing this chapter of WSI’s Outreach Program grew out of the willingness expressed by WSI’s shareholders, management team, staff and network of Internet Consultants to make a difference in our world by leveraging this global organization far beyond what any one person could contribute alone.

“Embracing this vision with the full strength of our organization is a passion shared by our management team and all stakeholders within the organization.” adds Ron McArthur, WSI’s Chief Operating Officer. “In addition to joining forces with our business partners around the world, our plan includes partnering with our clients and web surfers the world over.” McArthur goes on to explain that “By the 4th quarter of 2003 we were serving up over 500 million information hits each and every month through our network. Harnessing the power of many millions of visitors and massive internet traffic will be one of the most exciting parts of our vision as our we begin to reveal more detail on our activities later this quarter.”

“Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of these children one child and one village at a time.” Zalany concludes. “It’s one thing to make a dollar, but making a difference is something that we can all get very passionate about.”

A recent report on Corporate Citizenship by the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy’s Imagine Program says only 5% of businesses in Canada give to charity. Only 1% are “Caring Companies” (those that give back 1% of their pretax profits). WSI intends to inspire a new generation of Caring Companies to reach out and make a difference. The details of WSI’s plan will be released later next month to WSI’s global network of Internet Consultants.

BILLIONS AND BILLIONS SERVED: MONTHLY TRAFFIC TO WSI’S CORPORATE WEBSITE HITS RECORD HIGH            2/9/2004

Toronto, Canada

By utilizing the same technologies that helped to establish online success for their clients, WSI’s own corporate website (
www.wsicorporate.com) now receives more traffic than any other franchise website in the world.

With over a half billion hits per month traversing through its global network, WSI, the global leader in providing Internet Solutions to small- and medium-sized businesses is leading by example. Through its commitment to innovation, education, and customer satisfaction, WSI’s rapid growth has made its corporate website one of the most frequently visited online destinations in the franchising industry.

“It’s amazing to see just how much traffic our corporate site gets now,” says WSI Chief Executive Officer Louis Zalany. “To say over half a billion hits a month, it takes a minute for the scope of that number to really sink in.” With its rapidly growing network of Internet Consultants operating throughout the world, wsicorporate.com acts as a centralized starting point for the company’s franchisees, potential franchisees and customers alike. Filled with details about WSI’s products, services and unique methodology, the corporate site provides valuable information to potential clients, often introducing them to WSI for the first time and generating leads for WSI’s many franchisees. The explosive growth of visitor traffic to the WSI site confirms what the company has been telling its clients for years; the Internet is the single most important communications tool of our time and business owners the world over want to learn how to leverage its power.

Still a comparatively new player in the world of franchising, WSI has easily surpassed one of the most successful companies in the history of franchising, McDonald’s, in terms of global Internet traffic. As of January 2004, WSI was ranked 5,519 sites ahead of the industry giant according to a leading website traffic analyst. Even more remarkable is the large margin between WSI and other top franchises as listed by Entrepreneur magazine. WSI’s corporate site has a commanding 14,000 site lead over fast-food franchise Subway, and as the “Top Ten” progresses, major international brands fall even farther behind the Internet Solutions provider.

When presented with these latest numbers, newly-appointed WSI Chief Operating Officer Ron McArthur chose to focus instead on what is yet to come. “As we continue to develop as a company, our global traffic and thereby our international brand exposure will increase,” states McArthur. “Passing half a billion hits per month is a great accomplishment, but we’ll be all the happier when we grow to surpass a billion hits each month, and beyond. Our goal is to continue to work hard in order to remain the leading brand in Internet Consulting and to provide our clients with the opportunity to be amongst the leaders in their respective fields.”

By already surpassing franchise industry giants, WSI has shown that a combination of innovative technology and proven business systems can accelerate any business into a position of advantage. With this knowledge at hand, WSI’s international network of Internet Consultants will continue to teach small-to mid-size businesses how to compete with, and even surpass, their large scale competition in the online marketplace.

INTERNET EDUCATION THE BEST DEFENSE AGAINST NETWORK SECURITY THREATS AND SPAM            12/4/2003

Toronto, Canada

Internet security firm mi2g Ltd. estimates that digital attacks from hackers and viruses have resulted in over $100 billion in damages to websites worldwide in 2003. A record level of attacks—20,000, in the month of January alone—helped make Internet security one of the leading issues in the online world in 2003. It is predicted that these numbers will continue to increase with the total economic damage from all types of digital attacks worldwide passing the $250 billion mark in 2004. This poses a serious threat to online businesses, but it’s a threat that can be combated through proper education on the subject. This is the message being relayed internationally by WSI, the world’s largest network of Internet Consultants.

Once a business has made the decision to go online there are a number of important considerations beyond the development of the site itself. Concepts such as security—an ongoing and evolving process—is rarely given the attention it deserves. Through the consulting services offered by WSI, a business can acquire the critical knowledge it needs to protect itself from becoming an Internet security statistic. “Education is the key to a business protecting itself online,” explains WSI Internet Consultant Rene Garcia. “Everyday companies unknowingly make mistakes that leave their systems vulnerable to digital attacks. With the proper knowledge and software in place these mistakes can be avoided, saving money and increasing productivity and efficiency in the process.”

Typically, the news media focuses on attacks to large corporations and government agencies, leaving small- to medium-sized businesses with the impression that Internet security isn’t an issue that concerns them. Unfortunately this isn’t the case. Any business, no matter what its size or function faces potential threats from hackers each day for numerous reasons. By teaching companies how to defend their systems, WSI Internet Consultants strive to keep their clients informed and safe. As WSI clients know, one of the largest daily threats is the increased reliance on email—one of the most versatile and important tools to any online business. However, email as a communication medium is insecure and opens the door to potential attacks such as virus distribution and unsolicited advertisements or “spam”.

The popularity and widespread adoption of email is no accident; it is often more efficient than other means of communication and allows customers to quickly contact a business from anywhere in the world at any time of day. But as inboxes fill up with orders, inquiries, and correspondence, they also fill up with spam. In November 2003, measurements by Brightmail's Probe Network showed that 56% of all email was spam related. This has caused many industry insiders to predict that by mid-2004 spam will surpass the 60% mark.

And with ever-increasing spam comes larger threats to security. Spam in itself is an annoying nuisance that many businesses find drains productivity, distracts employees, and can be offensive. It also has a negative effect on server and storage space and can slow down connection time. In addition to this effect on valuable network resources, spam can also contain malicious code, and in some cases has been connected to credit card fraud and software piracy. With thousands of email messages being received and sent by individual companies each day, many businesses are making themselves an easy target to hackers, viruses, and spam. By utilizing WSI’s industry leading technology such as intrusion detection applications, authentication devices, and firewalls, a business can position itself to avoid the costly consequences associated with digital attacks.

Few can forget how fast the Sobig.F virus spread through the online world this past August, crippling entire network systems with the sheer volume of email traffic it produced. In just a few short weeks, this email-based threat caused $29.7 billion worth of damage to companies worldwide that were caught unprepared for such an attack.

Businesses can avoid costly security threats by practicing safe online behavior and employing server-based traffic filtering technologies, such as those offered by WSI’s hosting environment. As each business is different, WSI Internet Consultants can assess which methods will suit a particular company best and then deploy those solutions to protect their clients. As WSI Internet Consultant Garcia says, “Knowledge is power and with the right information in hand, most Internet security threats can easily be avoided.”

WSI SEARCH ENGINE MARKETING--PUTTING BUSINESSES IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS ON DEMAND            11/5/2003

Toronto, Canada

According to Forrester Research, e-Commerce sales will increase 19% year-over-year, rising to $229 billion in 2008 from $95.7 billion in 2003. With so many commercial sites on the Internet all vying for the same consumer dollars, it is becoming progressively more difficult for businesses to stand out and find their market. The solution to this ever-growing challenge is Search Engine Marketing: an integral part of WSI’s industry-leading Internet Solutions for small- to medium-sized businesses.

Customers who already know a business’ web address will have little problem finding and utilizing a site, however, this makes up a very small percentage of the potential clientele who use the Internet every day. Research shows that the majority of Internet users rely on search engines like Google™ and Yahoo™ to quickly locate the products and services they need.

While few would discount the value of being listed in a search engine—a process that can take weeks or months, depending on the service—many don’t realize that simply being listed isn’t enough. Not anymore. Sites must rank among the top search results if they ever hope to see a user click-through. By employing WSI’s Search Engine Optimization strategies, sites not only get listed within days, they also appear at the top of search results where interested consumers are looking for information.

One highly effective Search Engine Marketing option offered by WSI is known as “Guaranteed Inclusion”. This traffic generation system is becoming increasingly popular among WSI clients because the results are guaranteed. In order to drive this guaranteed traffic to client sites WSI Internet Consultants must first create a profile of a business’ potential prospects. Then, through a proprietary process which involves analyzing millions of “traffic-trails” on the World Wide Web, the WSI Internet Consultant will identify the exact targeted search terms and phrases that these prospects are currently using to identify products and services similar to the ones being offered by the business owner. Once defined, WSI Internet Consultants can position a business so that when an Internet user enters a query using those words or phrases into a partnered search engine, the client’s site is returned at the top of the search results. With hundreds—and sometimes thousands—of links being returned in any given keyword search, the advantage given to WSI optimized sites is significant.

What’s best of all is that using WSI’s Guaranteed Inclusion system, business owners only pay for the traffic that they get; that is, businesses only pay when a potential customer clicks through to their site, making this an extremely controllable and cost-effective method of reaching a wide audience. This is especially important for WSI’s target market of small- to medium-sized businesses, where budgets don’t allow for large-scale “broadcast” advertising. WSI clients determine how much they wish to pay for the service each month, allowing them to easily set out and manage their online advertising budget.

WSI’s Guaranteed Inclusion system is also extremely flexible, as keywords and phrases can easily be changed to improve results, take advantage of seasonal opportunities or target different market segments. WSI Internet Consultants continually monitor their clients’ campaigns and suggest modifications whenever necessary to ensure consistent top rankings according to the business goals of their clients. This is an important competitive advantage on today’s Internet where sales are won and lost in the time it takes to enter a few keywords and hit “Search”.

WSI DATA CENTER CONTINUES TO SET STANDARD FOR NETWORK AND WEB HOSTING RELIABILITY            8/29/2003

Toronto, Canada

In its quarterly review of Network Operations, WSI released figures today indicating that its Toronto Data Center continues to set the standard for network and web hosting reliability. According to WSI CTO Bob Lewis, the Company’s Toronto Data Center has maintained 99.9% service availability since January of 2003, surpassing the company’s stated SLA (Service Level Agreement) of 99.7% uptime. This level of service availability places WSI in the top percentile of web hosting performance.

Network stability has always been a priority for WSI, a fact proven during the unprecedented August 2003 blackout that affected millions of homes and businesses across the northeastern U.S. and Canada. While many I.T. companies were left in the dark until power levels stabilized, WSI’s full services were back up in less than 4 hours and its critical systems were unaffected by the blackout. Lewis attributes this success under such extreme circumstances to the company’s investment in backup systems and well-defined disaster recovery protocols. “From the moment power was lost, our backup systems maintained our core services and on-site generators were activated to restore reliable hosting capacity,” explains Lewis. WSI’s system of redundant Internet connections meant connectivity to the Internet was uninterrupted, even though many area Internet Service Providers were offline or operating at reduced capacity.

As the world’s leading Internet Solutions franchise, the demands placed on the WSI Data Center are significant. Every day it serves the operational needs of over 700 franchised offices worldwide and thousands of hosted websites. WSI’s global e-Marketplace model also relies on the Toronto Data Center to unite numerous production centers and suppliers with franchisees and the Home Office for vital day-to-day business functions. This amounts to over 2 million emails, over a half a billion hits to its web servers and 350GB of outgoing bandwidth each month.

Through its regular investment in high-end equipment and an ongoing partnership with IBM, WSI has consistently met these demands while maintaining the highest levels of service – definitely a point of pride for the rapidly growing franchise network. “We project even more growth through the 4th quarter of this year,” states Lewis “and further spending on hardware and staffing to meet that growth” he concludes. To keep things running smoothly, all of WSI’s systems are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by experienced I.T. professionals, including Microsoft Certified System Administrators.

Bob Lewis, WSI’s Chief Technology Officer brings 20 years of I.T. experience from Fortune 500 companies including Merrill Lynch, Aetna Life Insurance and the Bank of Nova Scotia. His background includes all areas of application development, project management, server and database management. Looking ahead, Lewis is excited about expanding WSI’s network capabilities by bringing on new internet traffic routing hubs in selected countries, further enhancing the speed and reliability of the company’s services.

WSI Internet Consultant Troy Ireland Wins U.S. National Businessman of the Year Award            5/26/2003

Washington, D.C.

Those looking for an example of the high caliber of professionals representing WSI need only look to New Jersey-based Internet Consultant Troy Ireland. Ireland was recently named the 2003 Businessman of the Year by the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Small Business Advisory Council.

Each year, the Advisory Council honors up-and-coming businesspeople from every State who have each made a significant contribution to the success of their business sector. From these Regional nominees, a national award is given to one exceptional professional; this year’s winner was Troy Ireland.

In just over a year, Ireland has grown his WSI Internet Consultancy franchise into a leading supplier of Internet Services for businesses. In addition to supplying web solutions to international clientele, his company offers advanced web development, web copywriting, opt-in marketing services and his specialty, Search Engine Optimization (SEO). His business has become so successful, he says, that he had to decline his invitation to Congress to accept his award in person due to scheduling conflicts.

According to Ireland, “WSI introduced [me] to all this success”. “It gives you a great foundation, with all the business processes and methodology you need to succeed [and] it’s flexible enough that you can take it where you want.” By focusing on measurable results – a vital component of the brand’s Internet Solutions Lifecycle™ – Ireland says his clients have come to expect a solid return on their investment, making them return customers and generating substantial referrals.

When asked about any other key strategies that have contributed to his success, he listed continuous learning and the ability to market oneself effectively as top priorities. “Talk to as many people as you can, learn as much as you can from people, about their needs, about their business. And don’t neglect to use the same technologies you’d use to market your clients’ businesses to market your own!”

In addition to recognizing exceptional members of the small business community like WSI's Troy Ireland, the Advisory Council’s mandate is to advise the U.S. House of Representatives, the Senate and the President of the impact legislation has on Small Business.

WSI Launches Wealth Creation Opportunity for Developers            7/24/2002

Toronto, Canada

“WSI capitalizes on the best of two different software development models to capture global market share”

Two of the greatest software development stories in history were championed by two very different men, using two very different approaches. By harnessing the power of the free enterprise system, Bill Gates created the largest software development company in the world and took his seat at the head of the table as the world’s richest man. Yet with the resources of the world's largest software development company, Microsoft, under his control, Bill Gates and the rest of the world watched in amazement as Linus Torvalds created Linux; what many believed to be the greatest computer operating system the world has ever known. What makes the Linux story even more astounding is that Linus Torvalds did this without any investment capital, no shareholders and without any employees. Torvalds had a vision of creating a new and better operating system that provided an alternative to what many developers saw as the big business, self appointed leader, Windows. Through an open standards software development model, Torvalds harnessed the power of the world’s software developers, all working for free as a virtual software community.

Now WSI, an International Internet Consulting and Education firm is taking a page out of both Gates and Torvalds play book. WSI has established itself as the world’s leading Internet Services Franchise whose systems are used by over 700 franchisees in 87 countries around the world. Rated the #1 Internet Services Franchise in the world by Entrepreneur Magazine, WSI has announced the launch of its e-Marketplace Approved Product (e-MAP) development framework. E-Maps allows independent software and web developers to develop innovative products and web services and earn a royalty on the sale of these products and web services throughout the world.

“The e-MAP initiative has been developed to add value to all of our stake holders, including Internet Consultants, Production Partners and their clients,” said Louis Zalany, WSI’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are harnessing the power of the independent software development community around the world in the same way that Linus Torvalds did; but by cutting each of these software and web service developers in on the action in our global network, they can also profit tremendously. Imagine if all the developers who contributed to the development of Linux received a small royalty on every installation. It’s win win win all around!”

The new products developed through WSI’s e-MAP initiative will be available through WSI Internet Consultants around the world. This will expand the profitability of each WSI Internet Consultant’s business while adding value to their offering for end clients.

If you would like to submit an idea for a new product or technology that you would like to be considered for distribution in WSI's e-Marketplace please email

WSI Re-engineers Support Services to Mirror Tiered Support Models of Top Fortune 500 IT Companies            10/15/2001

Toronto, Canada

It is projected that by 2005, Business-to-Business e-commerce will represent $8.5 trillion US. Predictions of incredible growth are driving companies to re-engineer how they operate their businesses in order to keep up with growth in demand.

WSI, a worldwide leader and leading edge Internet Consulting and Education Company, has carefully positioned itself to comfortably handle its vertical growth throughout the world. WSI has reinvented their business process including how they deliver support to their clients. Due to vertical growth in the company’s client base, demand for support by its “Internationally Recognized Internet Consultants,” has rapidly grown to thousands of requests a month.

In order to maintain the scalability of their support services, WSI has moved to a multi-tiered support infrastructure. This carefully engineered backbone allows WSI to deliver quality service to over 700 Consultants in over 85 countries globally. This centralized support system has given support staff the ability to triage each support issue. Issues of high impact to a Consultant’s business can be addressed immediately while still meeting service level agreements for issues of a lower priority.

The support services department is enabled to deliver quality support through effective tools and empowered staff. The mantra of the support center is that every Internet Consultant and their clients are our top customer and priority.

Some of the web-enabled tools of WSI’s support center include a ticketing CRM system that tracks all the requests and keeps the user updated on a real-time basis with the status of his or her request. The CRM also contains a knowledge base that provides WSI Consultants access to self-support around the clock. At the same time, support staff has a customized interface into the MAPS™ system - the nucleus of WSI’s operations backbone and their e-Marketplace.

WSI’s advanced networking system includes wireless enabled communicators including two way paging devices, monitoring software and intelligent systems that allow support representatives to trouble shoot issues from remote locations.

WSI has announced that the MAPS™ system is expected to become WAP enabled during the 1st quarter of 2002. This will eliminate the need for wired communications by allowing WSI Consultants to access “real-time” information and contact with the WSI support services department from any location. Support can receive requests through the web, email or by telephone.

WSI announces new Web Operating System (WOS) for management of websites.            9/6/2001

Toronto, Canada

WSI has deployed a new Web Operating System (WOS) within its hosting environment. The WOS is a secure, browser-based website control management interface. It represents a significant leap forward in providing a self-service solution for the management of hosted websites. The impact of the WOS translates into more rapid deployment of websites as well as more timely maintenance of sites. The greatest benefits will be to WSI’s network of Internet Consultants (ICs) and Production Centers. The WOS enables management of site files, email, security, databases, traffic and utilization reports via any browser. In the past it would take hours to launch a site, but now can be done within minutes, at any time of the day, anywhere in the world.

“Our franchisees are located around the world,” explains Bob Lewis, WSI CTO. "While people are working in one part of the world, the other half of the world is asleep. But global business never stops and the sun never sets on WSI’s global production capacities. By deploying the WOS, we can re-deploy our nighttime resources to other activities in support of the network. At the same time, the process of placing sites online is greatly reduced. It’s a win-win situation for our network. ”

WSI announces creation of the Virtual Private Marketplace (VPM) for its network of franchisees.            5/5/2001

Toronto, Canada

WSI has created the first e-marketplace within the Internet franchise sector. The Virtual Private Market Place (VPM) is a B2B system, which enables WSI’ s Internet Consultants (ICs)and Production Centers to collaborate and transact business via the Internet. At the core of the VPM is the MAPS™ system, which is a web-based project management and communication system.

According to International Data Corporation, e-markets are expected to generate over $2 trillion dollars of transactions by 2004. E-markets are ideally suited to businesses that support supply chain relationships such as WSI’s network of ICs and Production Centers. To illustrate, an IC located in the US is working with a mid-sized business to develop an e-commerce solution. After the IC documents all design and functionality requirements, an on-line work estimate for the building of the solution is submitted to several Production Centers via MAPS™. After the chosen Production Center completes the project and the IC’s client signs off the work, payment is made to the Production Center and the site is placed on-line. The entire cycle is completed virtually and coordinated through the MAPS™ system. “The VPM and the MAPS system are integral components supporting our network of franchisees and the growth of our business model,” said President Nigel Mayne. “The VPM model is highly scalable and will accommodate thousands of additional business relationships as WSI continues it’s phenomenal growth.”

WSI announces the launch of its new web-based Business Management System – MAPS™            4/6/2001

Toronto, Canada

WSI has released to its network of Internet Consultants and production centers a groundbreaking new system for managing all aspects of web-developed. Known as MAPS™, the system is an integrated web based, project management, project accounting, time management and website management system.

WSI is the first global Internet consultancy firm to develop and deploy a web-based project management system. With a network of over 700 franchise owners and production centers located globally, the ability to communicate from a common platform was a critical factor in developing the system.

As outlined by the company’s CTO Bob Lewis, “our global network of Internet Consultants (ICs) provides thousands of e-business solutions for small to medium sized businesses; which in turn are sent to production centers around the globe for development. To ensure consistent and systematic project development, timely delivery, real-time communication and collaboration, it makes sense to provide a common tool for managing all phases web development. MAPS™ is the key communication and collaboration tool of our network. Without it, the kind of high volume project management that our Internet Consultants require would be very difficult. Just imagine submitting work to many different Production Centers, each with a different project management and development process, using 4 different architectures…what a nightmare.”

Developed in conjunction with a research and development grant from the Canadian Government, MAPS™ is anticipated to immediately benefit Internet Consultants and Production Centers. For Internet Consultants, MAPS™ will manage all projects developed for their clients. All issues associated with a project are recorded within the system, so a complete audit trail is available at the click of a mouse. Having a central project management facility improves IC efficiency. Full project scheduling, profit and loss and resource time tracking allow Production Centers to deliver projects on time and within budget. Access to the system is available 24/7 via any browser; which is a must for global-based operations.
